Old blog, since 2002. Haven't updated in more than decade. Keeping it online for nostalgia feels.

Tableau 2, Mondrian: An adaptation

Digg!

Recently I have been very busy with poetics that my blogging had taken a beating. Not just that there are less and less posts, but perhaps even less and less time for me to even visit blogger friends websites.

Somehow my love for poetry has resurfaced, and had consumed much of my time. It did not stray much from politics and Filipino issues though, for in fact I had been writing mostly colonial poetry. To compromise between these two inner selves, I have decided to post the poems here and blog about them, without really ruining the pieces. Let me start with my adaptation, or re-interpretation of Piet Mondrian's painting Tableau 2, as the Philippine flag:

Tableau 2, Mondrian: An adaptation

Yellow-china
Blue-hispania
White-america
Red-maharlika
Black-propaganda

(Stars-Manila
Sun-Pag-asa)

Was I successful in poetic terms? Time will tell; and perhaps in the words of Sonny Villafania - if it ritualizes itself in print. We'll see.
