Old blog, since 2002. Haven't updated in more than decade. Keeping it online for nostalgia feels.

The Man Who Sold the World

Digg!

jordis Ricky blogs about Jordis (Rockstar INXS) who incidentally captured my fancy as early as her cover of the Nirvana's sacred "Heart-Shaped Box".

Evanescence has an acoustic version of the same song, that remains in my regular playlist. While Evanescence version is haunting in its slow acoustic build to climax, Jordis's version retains Kurt Cobain's edgy angst without destroying the integrity of the song.

By the next week, Jordis didn't disappoint with an excellent rendition of the mushy Hoobastank song, "The Reason". And then came The Song. Here's a video from Ricky's blog of Jordis singing David Bowie's The Man Who Sold the World. Now, to try to cover Nirvana would be one, but to effectively cover the same Nirvana cover (MTV unplugged 1993 album) Hey that's got to count for something.

I got wind that the lyrics of the David Bowie song are based on a poem by Hugh Mearns called The Psychoed - As I was going up the stair, I met a man who was not there, he wasn't there again today, I wish that man would go away. *
