EInstein on War
8.18.2005
He said, "He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder."
Hey Bushie! Einstein is talking to you.

I think this can be practiced only when everyone subscribes to this thinking. If an enemy attacks, it's only fair that you have to defend with all your resources. If you do not have disciplined men who subscribe to heroism on command, you lose out when the other party has drilled this into their men, or "robots." I take it that Einstein was referring to the aggressors.

And then again, these days, the matter of 'aggression' has become quite a relative thing. And sympathy can become a very erroneous gift of mercy.
Too many grey areas, and everyone has an issue. I wonder what Einstein would say had he lived through this day.

Excellent food for thought, Jet.
Sympathy is not the kind of sympathy it was. There is more of a need to thin-slice these days. The tremendous allowance for grey areas to cloud every issue has made it difficult for many decisions to be clear-cut.
Yes, I wonder what Einstein would say he he were to be alive today.
